DEAD AMONG THE LIVINGChapter 1-04RICH MAN'S TRIAL

The Bondo III Crisis: one of the greatest tragedies since the fall of the Republic…

…And yet the Republic soldiers there know nothing of the Jedi’s fall, leaving confusion and death to the people who were lucky to escape off world.

The people were divided, the most unfortunate were the ones who were infected, the unfortunate were the individuals who were fed upon, the least unfortunate were the people that survived the onslaught and lived to see the next dawn, and the lucky escaped Bondo III.

To the public, the poor folk were easily the last people to leave Bondo III, the rich and political leaders were the first class of escapees, all except for Mr. Tay Conlow, and his daughter Eidam Conlow. They had fought hard and well on the rooftop of their abode, until a great explosion caught them off guard, possibly a fuel carrier crash landing or a Sag-Rod igniting under the intense heat.

The fires of the explosion had gone out as Tay observed, meaning he was out for some time, maybe even a couple of days. Tay slowly pulled his knees closer to him, and began pushing himself up onto his feat.

Seeing his daughter on the ground, still unconscious, Tay frantically rushes to her, praying to Rajivari that Eidam was still alive.

Before Tay could reach her, Eidam pushed herself up and let out a sigh of relief that she was still a vegetarian.

Tay sighed as well, glad that his daughter was unharmed.

“Eidam, are you well? Please tell me you are not hurt…or bitten.” Eidam looked around herself, and looked up to her father whom she loved dearly, “Yes, father I am alright.”

Then finally remembering what happened, he felt a dark, cold, stabbing chill run down his old spine,

“Where’s Zacgo!”

“I am here, Father…”

“…down…”

“…here!”

Frantically snatching his rifle, and also finding that he was out of ammunition, he held onto it as he lowered the weapon over the side of the ruined house.

“Grab hold of it!” Eidam cried out.

Tay leaned lower over the side, trying to hide his fearful tears,

“Grab it, reach out and grab it!”

Zacgo forced his right arm against the ground and used the other to attempt to get a hold of the barrel.

“I can’t reach, father! Lean forward more!”

“Oh, father, it’s no use, go without me, give me a weapon!” Zacgo begged.

Tay put the gun away, and ordered to his daughter, “Eidam, try to find something longer than my rifle.”

“Wait,” Zacgo cried out, “I think I hear something!”

Seeing the Screecher in the distance, Tay ignored it to keep his family calm, “Eidam, get me something!”

Eidam looked frantically around the roof, “There’s nothing here, Father!”

Tay grabbed a hold of his weapon once again, and stood at the edge of the abode, “Eidam I’m going to have to go down there!”

“Father, no don’t go down there, you could get caught!”

“Stay here, Eidam, I’ll be back.” Tay ordered, knowing he may not return to the rooftop.

Just then, a man with a barb-staff rushes toward the opposing Screecher…

“Man, don’t oppose, you may be infected, help us!” Tay desperately cries out,

“Like Bantha fodder I am! This Screecher’s goin’ down if my name isn’t Ora Solo!” replies the man,

“SSSSSSSSCCCCCCCCRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEECCCCCCCCHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“Die, you sarlac spittin’ freak!” Ora charges, staff upraised…

Though in an instant the Screecher stops the Solo and rams him against the wall,

“NO! You ain’t takin’ me!” Ora roared, but is quickly taken down.

As the Screecher sent its infection into Ora Solo, the man grumbles in depression, “I’m sorry for leaving you, son.”

After that, Ora fell to the floor unconscious, working as the first stage to becoming a Screecher.

“SSSSSSCCCCRRREEEEEEECCCCHHHHHH!!!!!!!!”

“Gggggggggggggggggggsgsgsgsgsgsgsgsgsgsgsssssssssssss.”

“Dad, hurry, its gonna get me!” Zacgo yells at the top of his lungs.

“What am I gonna do? If I go down there, it’ll infect me and I’ll kill my own son.” Tay though, his heart pounding.

“Father, do something!!” Eidam screams.

“SSCCRREEEECCHH!!”

“Almost there, father!” says Zacgo as they attempt to use the rifle again.

But the Screecher was now just a few feet from Zacgo and the man moments from death…and revival.

“I’ve got it, I’ve got it! Pull me up!” Zacgo cried out, gripping the barrel with all that he had.

“Oh, no!” Eidam screamed,

“PULL!”

“SSSSCCRRREEE…”

“…EEECCCHHH!!!”

“NO!” Tay begged, he began pulling even harder, noticing the weight had changed very much.

Eidam only sobbed, she could do nothing but cry after the loss of her younger brother.

Tay’s anger for the chaos grew stronger, as he looked down his rifle…

…and found the reason of the sudden lightness on his weapon.

Tay Conlow was too late.

It was at least an hour later, the entire time, Eidam and Tay were silent…until now.

“Eidam, it’s not safe here any longer, we need to find a way off world.” Tay proclaims,

“I know.” was all the daughter could say.

“We need to find ammo first,” Tay finishes, “or we won’t last long.”

“I don’t think any of us will last long, father…”

“This is too much for anyone to handle…even the Jedi.”

“I really want to give up…because I think our relatives gave up hope when they left, so what’s the point of trying to escape…?”

“There is no escape!” Tay was quite for a moment before telling her, “Then help me escape for Zacgo, for that is what he wanted.”

Eidam was quiet for a while before replying, “Yes, father.”

Leaping from the roof to the ground, and the two made their way to haven…

…Now avoiding their beloved son, who had passed on his spirit, but not his the body.

“Hurry, Eidam, we must be quick.” Tay warns his daughter.

“For our son had left us a while ago.”

“Yes, Father, I know.” Eidam replies, staying in the front as if she was ahead of chaos…

…Ahead of darkness…

…And ahead of death.
